Optimum Nutrition Essential AmiN.O. Energy Review
Ever since I’ve tried this mix about 3 years ago, I haven’t switched off. It’s great for all your energy needs, obviously for a pre-workout, but it’s also great just to help start the day. ON (Optimum Nutrition) has got it right with this pre-workout formula. Beta-alanine, leucine, taurine, etc. As well as a decent dosage of caffeine. So you’ll get a strong kick, but without the crash.
Cost - 8
For an ON product, it’s surprisingly low-priced. It’s easily less than a dollar per a serving, but you’re still getting the quality ON is known for.
Taste - 8
Lots of flavors to pick from, so you can’t really go wrong with which one you go with. Some are sweet (blue raspberry), some are less-sweet (orange cooler). If I had to pick two, I’d go with blueberry mojito, and concord grape. Or cotton candy if the sweet tooth attacks.
Mixability - 8
It could be worse, it could be better. It mixes well, but some of the mix sinks to the bottom within minutes – which isn’t a problem if you have a shaker or a spoon to use. Other than that small issue, it mixes just fine.
EFFECT - 8
It may not have the most Beta-Alanine out of the other pre-workouts, but you still get a kick of energy going. Take 2-3 scoops 20-30 minutes before your workout, and you will be feeling hyped up. And if you're still need more of a kick, then add another scoop or two to your drink.
Since this mix doesn't contain creatine, you won't get that pump that goes with it. Obviously you can always add your own creatine into your pre-workout drink. But if you're like me, you prefer taking your creatine post-workout. So it's up to you with what you prefer, but it's nice to have either of those options.
Overall - 8
That's a lot of 8's, but I think it's a fair number for all the categories. There's room for improvement, but for now, I'd say it's one of the best universal energy mixes out there. It's stop me from buying $2+ energy drinks (the odd time that I did), and it consistently gives me a strong kick to get a good workout in. Not only that, but all the flavors are, at the very least, good, and the cost per a serving lower than I'd expect from a product like this.
- Inexpensive per serving.
- Universal use throughout the day.
- Most flavors can be a tad too sweet.
